At Vivir Acupuncture, we are committed to supporting patients with living their best lives possible, by helping them achieve and maintain their health goals. By identifying each person’s unique presentation, providing exceptional treatments, and by incorporating patient education, our goal is not only to alleviate the presenting symptoms, but to encourage and motivate patients to be proactive about their health. Our practitioners will strive to meet these standards by being competent, compassionate, understanding and dedicated to each person’s wellbeing.
KATIE TOBISKA, L.Ac.
Before Oriental Medicine, I was a Health Educator, and also worked in social services as a counselor. I always knew I wanted to help people live their best lives, but I had yet to find a career that was able to encompass each person as an individual, instead of classifying them into specific groups. I have always strongly believed that each person faces their own set of distinct challenges that makes their disharmonies unique. When I found Oriental Medicine, I had finally found my match!
I am a California Board licensed acupuncturist and herbalist. I began my education by earning a bachelor’s of science in Public Health from Oregon State University. With this aspect of my education, I learned the importance of meeting people where they are at mentally, physically, emotionally, economically, and in numerous other ways in order to personalize a plan that will work specifically for them.
After gaining experience in the work world and refining my passion, I enrolled at Five Branches University in Santa Cruz. There, I earned my 4-year Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. During my studies, I gravitated towards Japanese Acupuncture, as it provided a feedback system with each patient’s body to better help determine the root of their disharmony. I enjoy discussing this feedback system with each patient to help educate them about their disharmony, and help them identify what lifestyle habits, environmental factors or other aspects about their lives that may be contributing factors to their complaints. I have seen significant health transformations using this process!
I treat any and all imbalances, but I am especially drawn toward autoimmune disorders, nervous system imbalances, blood sugar regulation and the various types of pain. A large part of my practice is patient education. There is nothing more empowering as understanding your body’s patterns and knowing the tools to use to help yourself!
I currently live in Santa Cruz with my husband and our daughter. When I’m not treating patients, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, surfing, hiking, stand up paddle boarding, spending time in nature, reading and working on making my thumb a little greener in the garden!
